Head coach of the pole vault section
Coaching class 2
Martin is a class 2 coach with ten years of experience. He started in athletics in 1986 at a sports primary school in Ostrava-Vítkovice. In addition to his current coaching experience, he is the head coach of the pole vault section of the Youth Sports Centre of the Czech Athletic Association. He gained his experience from top pole vault coaches Jiří Lesák, Boleslav Patera, and Pavel Beran. Their guidance led him as an athlete to the junior national team, where he placed fourth at the European Championships in 1993. From 1998 to 2002, he qualified for the European Indoor Championships and the World Championships. He is a seven-time national champion, a silver medallist at the European Cup and the European Champions Cup. As an athlete, he represented the SSK Vítkovice Athletic Club, Dukla Prague, USK Prague, and AK Bohumín, and returned to AK SSK Vítkovice as a coach in 2020.
Martin considers Jiří Lesák and Robert Změlík to be the personalities who influenced him the most in his athletic life. He always takes into account that an athlete’s performance depends on many factors, but he considers the most important factor to be the maximum trust between the athlete and the coach. The driving force behind his work is the ambition to create a larger group of pole vaulters in Czech athletics.
