Sobčíková Jana, PhDr.

1976, Ostrava

Head coach of the hurdling section

Coaching class 1

Jana has a PhD in Czech literature, but found her true calling eight years ago when she returned to athletics full-time. In addition to her original education, she earned a Coaching Class 1 certification. Currently, her athletes are collecting medals from national championships in both the youth and junior categories. She herself is a junior champion of the Czech Republic in the 800m race. However, she does not consider her greatest achievement to be the medals, but rather the children who enjoy athletics.

Jana’s strongest influence in her athletic life is the world-class athletes at the Golden Spike Ostrava, who are both stars and great people. Among the most inspiring is triple jumper Christian Taylor, who combines the aura of success with kindness and humility.

In her work as a coach, she is deeply aware of the amount of time spent with the athlete and the influence that the coach has on their development. For this reason, she considers it crucial to lead by example as a coach, providing support not only in a professional capacity but also as a person. She views the coach-athlete relationship as a mixture of trust, understanding, and authority. The goal of her work is to cultivate athletes who are passionate about exceeding their limits, willing to fight for victory, and able and willing to pursue their athletic dreams while competing in the spirit of fair play.
